Britain's JAMIE LEE WHITEHOUSE - 14 yrs - from Willenhall - finishes 4th in a Final packed with suspense...
The Trophee of WORLD MARBLES ON SAND CHAMPION was awarded on Friday 25th August to Xavier MICHELET - a 29 yr old truck driver from Le Mans in France. MICHELET snatched the victory from 11 year old MAXIME FOURNEAU from Belgium who, disappointed, came in a very very close 2nd place. 3rd was 15 year old MILEN DIMITROV from Bulgaria.
The faboulous circuit (96 metres long), sculpted out of 40 tonnes of sand by the MONDIAL BILLES - WORLD MARBLES team, was surrounded on all sides by tiered seating - packed to the brim - during the extremely tense final which began at 9pm and finished at 10h30pm on Friday 25th August. Britain's JAMIE LEE WHITEHOUSE stayed up front with the winners throughout the race, until the final obstacles proved to be too much... Jamie Lee finished a very close 4th place and went back to Wolverhampton on Sunday 27th with a satisfied smile on his face !
The WORLD CHAMPION 1999, Junior Martinez FONSECA from Cuba, was knocked out of the race in the earlier stages, along with 38 year old ULRICH KAMPS from Germany, 36 year old OLE MARKER from Denmark, 15 year old AMIN ZERRIA from Tunisia, 11 year old HELGI RUNAR HEIDARSSON from Iceland and 27 year old DAVID CATALA from Spain.
14 year old Jamie won his place in the World Final following heats held at the Mander Shopping Centre, Wolverhampton, last October. He then went on to the National 2000 Final of MONDIAL BILLES-WORLD MARBLES which took place in Newport on the Isle of Wight in June. Jamie Lee expertly flicked his way over numerous obstacles and beat 11 other national finalists of all ages to the finish line - and winning his place in the WORLD FINAL.
