  Mondial Billes - The description

The World Marbles on Sand Championship (Mondial Billes) was born 26 years ago in Royan on the French Atlantic Coast. The way it works is simple ! All year round, the World Marbles Team (between 4 and 7 people) travel to over 60 destinations World Wide (including France, Germany, Cuba, Canada, Tunisia, Iceland, Great Britain, Poland...) in order to select a National Champion from each participating country. The World Final takes place at the end of August each year where these National Champions contest the title of World Champion.

In 1999 the World Final was won by Junior Martinez Fonseca, 13 yrs old from Cuba. In 2000 the World Final was won by Xavier Michelet, 29 yrs old from Le Mans, France. In 2001, the title went to 16 year old Milen Dimitrov from Bulgaria. The competition takes place on a circuit (a real work of art which takes the World Marbles Team between 1 and 4 days to sculpt depending on size) sculpted in sand. Each circuit is a representation of a leg of the cycle race "Le TOUR DE FRANCE" with straights, bends, mountains, chicanes and other obstacles.

The competition is open to anyone and everyone aged 7 and up. Inscriptions are free and are taken on the day. The heats generally take place over a period of 2 to 3 days with a local final on the last day of the competition. Strong Point : Wherever it goes, the World Marbles on Sand Championship never fails to leave the media untouched.
